"Comma Fits into My Lifestyle Perfectly." | Comma Culture Series with Logan

As someone who values change, travel, and new challenges and opportunities, Logan Jones knew that a regular 9 to 5 job couldn’t offer the flexibility he wanted in a writing career. But he didn’t know if he could find work that fit his lifestyle — until he joined Comma.

Writing and editing as a Comma team member allows Logan to write in a variety of styles for a wide range of clients, something he said he couldn’t find in a traditional job. The flexibility combined with the company’s positive, relaxed environment makes Comma a place where people celebrate each other's victories while helping clients reach their content goals.

I joined Team Comma because of the flexibility, the freedom of being able to be a writer and make my own hours. I want to do so much with writing, and Comma has opened all of those doors for me. We've been able to work with ad agencies and schools and write children's books —things that I would never be able to do in a traditional job out there hunting on my own. So, Comma has given me all those opportunities. The day-to-day is great. It's pretty relaxed. It's a good example of what a positive work environment should be. Even though we're all zooming into teleconferences and we're not seeing each other face to face very often, it's the best work culture I've ever worked with. It’s incredible to foster that sort of environment in a body of people that don't get together very often. But it's so positive that we get to celebrate each other's wins all the time. We root for each other instead of being a competition with one another, and that's one of the primary reasons I left my little job in search of something like Comma.

Comma makes the client's job easier by handling all the busy work, all the stress of tracking down sources and finding ways to make content interesting. Like that's our specialty. Everybody on our team has a background in something, and we've been able build out a team of people that can handle anything that clients throw at us. So, to take that kind of burden off of the client's shoulders so they can focus on their business, their marketing. We have a call with them where we figure out what voice they want to use, and then we have writers that are experts in kind of morphing their style to match that voice.

Being a part of Comma makes me feel empowered. I didn't know what options existed for professional writing jobs. When I graduated college, I knew that writing was what I liked to do. I knew it was what I was good at, but other than authoring a novel, I didn't know what was out there for writers. Comma has given me a place to explore all kinds of options. Learn all kinds of industries. I do not have to stick to a regular day job if I'm not in love with it. It gives me the flexibility to know that I have something to fall back on if I want to change something in my career. To have freelance writing in the form of working for Comma always there for me is a huge benefit.

Comma fits into my lifestyle perfectly. I am not someone who wants to sit at an office and work at a desk and be in a familiar environment. I like change, I like to travel, and I like different challenges. I like my job description, changing from time to time so that I have new things to work on. I don't ever want to get bored. And obviously, working for different clients through Comma keeps you on your toes, but in a good way. It's always a new challenge and a new opportunity every time a new client comes to you with something. It's exciting to work with the Comma team and the other writers to kind of figure out each puzzle as it comes up.
