"I Feel Valued as a Person at Comma" | Comma Culture Series with Jen

Jen Burton, Team Lead at Comma

In a world filled with productivity optimizations and life hacks, it can be hard to feel appreciated for just being yourself at work. But at Comma, Jen feels valued as a person who has a family, loves to learn new things, and brings her individual talents to every project.

Writing for Comma allows Jen to collaborate with clients who have a passion for supporting their own employees, too. With this network of support in place, she doesn’t have to worry about what she brings to the table — she knows every word she writes is valued by her editors, leaders, and clients.

Simply put: “No matter where I’m at in life, Comma fits into that and it brings me joy.”

I love working for Comma because I get to experience the freedom of having a family and working, but also I love learning new things. I love working for clients that have a passion for their own people and what they're doing, and what they believe in, and I get to learn about that. I get to explore new topics that I would never have otherwise. Comma is different from any other company that I've worked for because I feel valued as a person, not just as an employee. It's not about the products that I'm producing; it's about who I am and what I can bring to the table as an individual. And I love that every day at work is different, and no matter where I am in life, Comma fits into that, and it brings me joy.

One of the Comma values that I really love and I feel passionate about is curiosity. I love learning new things. I love asking questions, whether that's a client or a person on my team. I love that here at Comma, we want to learn about all different things and explore all different topics and learn different ways of writing, and I learned so much from the other people on my team. I really appreciate how they make me a better writer and a better person through their curiosity as well as my own.

I would tell any prospective writer that every word they write will be valued. I mean, I've done freelance before, and it's pennies for what you put your heart and soul into. But here at Comma, you're valued as a person, as a writer, and you receive that value back. You can work from anywhere, and you can work with anyone at Comma. I have worked with a baby on my lap more times than I can say, and it's wonderful to feel valued in that way, and I never worry about what I bring to the table. It's going to be valued.
