"Comma Has a Fabulous Breadth of Capabilities." | Steve Arntz, Founder of Campfire

One of the biggest challenges businesses face is visibility. Businesses need great, compelling narratives that connect with their audience to stand out in a noisy space.

Comma helps leaders — like Steve Arntz at Campfire — focus on growing their business by taking content creation off of their plate. While he was encouraged by Comma’s strong brand reputation, the team’s depth of experience writing for audiences similar to Campfire’s was what really gave Steve the confidence that Comma was the right partner to tell his brand’s story.

At Campfire, we're on a mission to provide universal access to connected learning experiences, which we call campfires. So, we train managers now and hope to expand our offering to be able to facilitate and support conversations anywhere where people are trying to do better and be better. I think the biggest challenge that any business faces in the early days, the biggest risk that you have, is that nobody knows who you are. You kind of assume that because it's so important to you that everybody is watching, they're wanting to see you grow, and they're paying attention to the things that happen.

At the end of the day, it just takes 10, 20, or 100 times more effort than you think to actually get people to be aware of who you are, to know you even exist. Being able to write stories in a compelling way that connects with your audience that helps people to build a relationship with you is probably the biggest thing we've done to invest in sort of closing that gap.

In a brand where you're serving HR leaders, where you are helping to develop leaders and people, it is inherently in need of thought leadership, you have to be able to demonstrate a position of knowledge, a position of expertise, a position of strength. You have to be saying things that are unique and different, and you have to be saying it a lot. People need fresh ideas, new insights, and a new approach. It needs to be human-centered, and storytelling is just a massive component of that.

Content really is the linchpin of everything that we do at Campfire. That's not from just a marketing perspective. We create content that we deliver to our customers that's our product. Everything needs to be tied to a really strong narrative, envisioned from a brand and a storytelling perspective. The content marketing work that we do and the work that we do with Comma is central to that.

A bunch of factors went into choosing Comma. So first off, really strong brand reputation. And so, talking to some other leaders in the area in the space, them recommending Comma as a place to go. Comma works with other brands that are in our space, so they have this position of strength from a thought leadership perspective of being able to write to our audience. Then further, and this is just a personal thing for me, I'm very passionate about creating amazing places for women specifically to work. We have a 50-50 leadership team, and we have 19 children on our leadership team. Meeting Crystalee and talking with the team, and seeing a similar passion for creating amazing spaces for working mothers to have great lives and careers is something that is deeply resonant for us. Partnering with like-minded companies who care about treating people well and doing great work is something that is very important to Campfire.

The thing that stood out the most in my initial conversation with Crystalee was we hit 99.9% of our dates. This last year we missed one, and if we missed, then it's free, and I got pretty excited about how much free content I thought I might be able to get. I didn't get any free content. So, really timely in terms of hitting dates and predictable in that regard. Then the team just has a fabulous breadth in terms of capability of writing in our space and on our themes and being able to put out some really strong thought leadership pieces. The experience has just been fabulous working with the team.
